Well child medical services and educational programs are provided at the Norwalk Health Department and in the community.
Well Child Program
- For children (birth to age 5) who are uninsured or under-insured.
- Provides: physical exams; routine immunizations; and tests for hemoglobin, TB, and lead poisoning.
- By appointment.
- No charge for Norwalk residents (nominal fee for out-of-town clients).
- Referrals are made to other medical and social service agencies as needed.
Maternal / Child Health Nurse Consultant and services
- Provides on request, information and educational programs to area nursery schools, day care centers, public schools and community groups about children's health issues.
- Conducts disease investigations in the event of a communicable disease outbreak in the pre-school community.
- Provides vision and hearing testing for three to five year olds at preschool and day care settings.
- Teaches medication administration training course for licensed child daycare providers. (fee applies)
- Conducts home visits, investigations and education for families with children with elevated lead levels.
- Provides immunization service for required vaccinations for children 0-18 years; by appointment only.
- Provides "back to school" physical exams every August; by appointment only.
