Our Vision
"Excellence with Efficiency"
The mission of the Norwalk Health Department is to prevent and control the spread of disease, promote a healthy environment, and protect the quality of life within our changing community. During this fiscal year (7/1/09- 6/30/10) there will be a focus on reaching 5 goals.
Goal 1: To prepare for a mild, moderate or severe flu pandemic including a plan on how to educate the public about what to do under each scenario.
Goal 2: To educate the community (e.g., general public, businesses and the City Council) on the "Value of Public Health" with data developed from Public Health Programs (e.g., Norwalker).
Goal 3: To identify other organizations that would work collaboratively with us moving forward on issues of common interest to the community (e.g., Obesity)
Goal 4: To continue to prepare for a PHAB Accreditation "Beta Test"
Goal 5: To comply with mandates set in Connecticut General Statutes and public health code, the Norwalk Code, and in all contracts with third party funders. The Health Department is made up of a team of trained health professionals and competent support staff. A six member voluntary Board of Health provides valuable guidance in the development of policy. Under the direction of the Mayor and the Common Council the organization carries out the mission.
